Book Reviews

This book is absolutely terrific and I'm sure will be a big success. It contains many important insights that will be very useful to readers.

Dr. David Buss, the author of the worldwide bestseller, The Evolution of Desire.

With much wisdom, stunning insight, and plenty of wordplay, Bill Branyon and Lauren Eavarone give us a cutting-edge guidebook on contemporary friending, flirting, dating, and loving. Having survived one marriage and four live-ins, having long written for The New Yorker and The New York Times (where I art directed for 30 years and about which I’ve authored a book), I thought I knew everything; yet I learned a lot (and had a terrific time) while reading Advanced Romance.

So this book has many whimsical rhyming concepts about love and sex — e.g. “the grass is greener misdemeanor “— all explained with ample issue of song lyrics, stories and such. It really Is a When Harry Met Sally Volume II combined with much fresh insight and novel thinking about how to live amorously and responsibly in our post 60’s sexual freedom world.

No lecturing or anything — just lots to challenge our assumptions about love and commitment. Definitely a good book to read and consider … but be sure your mate does the same!

Lauren Eavarone and Bill Branyon have identified some thorny relationship problems and come up with new, creative outlooks on how to tackle them. In the process, they’ve made ingenious use of insights from the social sciences, as well cultural icons such as Joni Mitchell, Kurt Vonnegut, and James Taylor.

The authors encourage readers to push themselves toward a bolder, more daring search for what they really need and want. Readers are challenged to break out of comfortable mental ruts that often go along with relationship problems. In addition, the authors convey their thought-provoking message with compassion, sensitivity, and wit.
